Your journey to a more balanced and healthy version of yourself is as unique as you are and we have a variety of tools to help you along the way.

All of our counselors are trained in the most well-known methods you think of when you imagine “therapy,” but we also have people trained to provide more specific types of treatment known as modalities. If you’re seeking help using one of these specific tools or have questions about these or other modalities, please email us at info@radzomcounseling.com or give us a call at 618.248.2040.

Modalities

ART THERAPY

Art therapy uses methods such as painting, drawing, writing, and clay in combination with more traditional talk therapy. This technique draws on aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and family systems theory to provide an avenue of expression for those who have difficulty verbalizing their emotions.

DIALECTIC BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidenced-based method of talk therapy that has been adapted specifically for people who struggle with the intensity of their emotions and the resulting behaviors that have a negative effect on their lives.

DBT focuses on providing skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, and has been successfully used to treat people with borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders, PTSD, substance abuse disorder, and suicidal ideation.

EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION & REPROCESSING (EMDR)

EMDR is a form of psychotherapy that uses a body-based therapy technique called bilateral simulation to help clients overcome current emotional distress caused by traumatic events they’ve experienced.

During bilateral simulation, your therapist will guide you through eye movements while you recall different details of a past event in order to change the way that memory is stored in your brain. The insights you gain during EMDR stem from your own intellectual and emotional processes versus traditional therapy that relies on clinical interpretation.

GOTTMAN METHOD (FOR COUPLES)

Our relationship counselors utilize Gottman-based relationship therapy in their work with couples. This was developed by Dr. John Gottman, who spent more than 40 years using scientific methods to study relationships.

This research has taught us that there are distinct differences in the way satisfied couples and dissatisfied couples interact and relate to each other and has provided us an empirically-supported approach to couples therapy. We help couples avoid the path to disaster (or re-route them if they are already there) and lead them to build strong, satisfying, and meaningful relationships while teaching them how to negotiate through disagreements and conflict.
